The Event

What exactly is the Waco Whackdown GT?

A two-day, five-round Warhammer 40,000 Grand Tournament held April 10–11, 2027 at the Hilton Garden Inn in Waco, Texas. Eighty players, forty tables, one champion.

When does registration open?

Not yet — we are finalising pricing and the ticketing platform. Join the mailing list or our Discord and you will hear the moment seats go live. Eighty seats will not last long.

How much does it cost?

Ticket price is still being finalised. It will include both days of play, event swag, and prize eligibility.

Is this an official Games Workshop event?

No. The Waco Whackdown GT is an independently organised community tournament. Warhammer 40,000 and all related marks are property of Games Workshop Limited.

Playing

What army size and ruleset?

Standard Grand Tournament format at 2,000 points. The exact mission pack and edition will be confirmed in the rules pack once the 2027 season materials are out.

What is the painting requirement?

Battle Ready as a minimum — three colours and based. This is a painted event; it is what makes the room look the way it should.

Do I need to submit a list ahead of time?

Yes. Lists will be due a couple of weeks before the event so they can be checked and published. The exact deadline and submission link go in the rules pack.

I have never played a GT before. Should I come?

Yes. Five rounds of Swiss pairing means you play opponents at your own level from round two onward. Bring a painted army, a printed list, and a good attitude — the rest sorts itself out.

What should I bring?

Your painted army, three printed copies of your list, dice, tape measure, tokens, and any codex or index you need. Terrain and tables are provided.

Getting Here

Why Waco?

Because it is the one place every Texas 40k scene can reach in a morning. Ninety minutes from Dallas–Fort Worth, ninety from Austin, forty-five from Killeen and Belton, and a straight shot from Houston, San Antonio, and College Station. No one has to fly.

Is there a hotel room block?

The event is hosted at the Hilton Garden Inn Waco, so you can roll out of bed and onto a table. We are working on a group rate — details will land on the Venue page.

Where do I park?

Free on-site parking at the hotel for all attendees.

What is there to do in Waco?

Magnolia Market at the Silos, the Dr Pepper Museum, the Waco Suspension Bridge, Cameron Park, and the Texas Ranger Hall of Fame are all a short drive from the venue. Bring the family and make a weekend of it.

Everything Else

Can I sponsor the event or run a vendor table?

Absolutely — that is exactly what we are looking for. See the Sponsors page for tiers, or email us directly.

Can I spectate?

Yes, and it is free. Come watch, talk shop, and see forty tables of painted armies in one room.

What is the refund policy?

Full refund up to 60 days before the event, half up to 30 days, and none inside 30 days — at that point we have already bought your swag and your prize support. Seats may be transferred to another player at any time.
